Farshi Nikah
White cotton silk gharara paired with embroidered shirt and organza dupatta
This simple yet elegant traditional dress is intricately embroidered in silver and sequins. Ideal for a nikah or engagement function. The gharara takes atleast 6 to 7 meters of material.
A farshi gharara resembles a long two - legged skirt which is held by drawstrings. It is straight till the knees and from there starts flaring on to the floor. The word farsh means floor hence it is named ‘farshi’.
The Farshi was actually a take on the British flowing gowns. A beautiful creation of the courts of Awadh in 17th century wherein the Begums of Awadh came out with a British - inspired gown - dress.
It certainly looks like it’s a com back on the bridal fashion scene. Salma Agha wore a white gharara in film Nikah 1980’s. Karina kapoor wore a gharara at her wedding.
